Akshay Kumar's 'Sarfira' shocks Box Office on opening day

Despite positive word-of-mouth, Akshay Kumar's latest film 'Sarfira' (Hindi) had a surprisingly low opening at the box office, failing to surpass the first-day collections of 'Selfiee' (Rs 2.55 crore) and 'Mission Raniganj' (Rs 2.80 crore). The film, directed by Sudha Kongara, made just Rs 2.50 crore on Day 1 in India. The figure is in nett. terms.

Industry analysts are calling it a "wait-and-watch situation" as the weekend holds the key to the film's performance. A strong showing on Saturday (Day 2) and Sunday (Day 3) is crucial for a turnaround.

'Sarfira' is the Hindi remake of 'Soorarai Pottru', the critically acclaimed Tamil film. The positive buzz surrounding the film hasn't translated into ticket sales yet, and the movie needs to convert good reviews into audience footfall to achieve success.

In an interview before the release of his film, Akshay Kumar said that some of his Bollywood industry colleagues are happy that he has scored half a dozen flops in a row.
