Much before Tollywood films gained pan India craze, Tamil heroes commanded all-India popularity and many of their films were big hits all over India. In particular, their both dubbed and straight films created a market that was the envy of big stars in Tollywood as well.
This includes Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, Suriya, Vikram, Karthik and to an extent even Ajith. However, one actor who has tried really hard but always fell short of expectations was Ilayathalapathy Vijay. No matter how hard he has been trying, he is able to generate buzz but not a solid hit in the last 15 years.
Now, his latest offering is Varasudu, produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateshwara Creations and directed by Vamsi Paidipally. Although some of his recent films did some good business, like other heroes of his era, Vijay is hoping that this film will quench his thirst for success at Tollywood box office.
