20 years since his debut, Sukumar rules the roost

We are living in an era where most filmmakers lose their spark after one or two films. Only a handful of directors across film industries in India continue to show creativity that is a class apart. Among those few Indian filmmakers who has held his ground for two decades is Sukumar, who debuted with 'Arya' on this day (May 7) back in 2004.

With his very first movie, he proved to be a new-age filmmaker. He broke the prevailing trend of showing one-sided love in a melodramatic fashion. Instead, his male lead (played by Allu Arjun) was fun-loving and had no problems with the female lead not reciprocating his love.

'Jagadam', the director's sophomore project, had nothing to do with run-of-the-mill templates. 'Arya 2' and '100% Love’ had their own flair. Mahesh Babu's ‘1: Nenokkadine’ is one of the most underrated movies. Jr NTR's ‘Nannaku Prematho’ was intelligent as well. Ram Charan’s ‘Rangasthalam’ was a classic.

With ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, Bunny has become a pan-Indian filmmaker. He awaits the release of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ on August 15.
