'The Family Star': OTT viewers slam Parasuram for 'rape threat' scene

"In 'Family Star', the 'hero' bashes up the goons of a muscleman (played by Ravi Babu) who preyed upon the women of his family. And then, proceeds to give a rape threat to the women of goon's family. That's all I have to say," wrote BH Harsh, a film journalist, expressing dismay over a scene from actor Vijay Deverakonda's latest film. Director Parasuram has been coming in for criticism over the problematic language used by VD's character in the Summer release.

As per a section of cinephiles, Parasuram's movies have always ill-treated women in a regressive way. "In 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata', Mahesh Babu's character lectures that Keerthy Suresh's character, being a woman, must do household chores," a Netizen pointed out.

It must be noted that 'Geetha Govindam' was criticized heavily for moral reasons when the film was released in 2018. In that one, VD's character behaves inappropriately with a stranger (Rashmika Mandanna) in a bus and yet his character is whitewashed in the climax, with the heroine herself certifying him as the most lovable guy around.

'Family Star', produced by Dil Raju, is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
