Yet another non-Telugu original has joined the Sankranthi race. Already, Dhanush's 'Captain Miller' and Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 'Laal Salaam' are in the race from Kollywood. And now, Vijay Sethupathi-starrer 'Merry Christmas' has also been confirmed for a release during Pongal 2024.
Starring Katrina Kaif as the female lead, the film was slated to hit the screens on December 8 this year. Due to some reasons, it has now been postponed to January 12 next year. Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, the Tamil-Hindi bilingual co-stars Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand. “We have made this film with a lot of love and passion, like every filmmaker does. However, with back-to-back movie releases and packed last two months of 2023, we have taken the decision to bring our film to theatres on 12 Jan 2024”, the makers today said, announcing the release date.
Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Industries and Matchbox Pictures Pvt. Ltd are planning to go for a major release in the Hindi market. And since Sethupathi is the hero, it will have a prominent release in Tamil.
However, in Telugu, 'Merry Christmas' will only have a formal release. It would be ideal for the movie to be pushed to Republic Day in Telugu if the distributors and exhibitors in the Telugu States fail to accommodate it. In any case, 'Merry Christmas' will hardly find takers in Telugu during Sankranthi.
