Karthi's 'Japan' frustrates viewers, critics

'Japan', starring Karthi in the role of a mega robber, hit the screens this Friday. And the audience's verdict is out. The heist action comedy is on its way to being declared a flop in Tamil Nadu. In the Telugu States, as per trade reports, the film garnered decent openings although it started conceding defeat to 'Jigarthanda DoubleX' by the evening of Day 1.

Film critics have panned 'Japan' lock, stock and barrel. India Today described the Diwali release as a complete misfire. In its review, The Hindu described Karthi’s heist comedy as "uninspired, dull and lengthy". Film Companion, on its part, said, "Many sequences fail to hold your attention because the plot runs into predictable spaces and the supporting characters are pushed to the background, leaving nothing concrete to hold on to."

Directed by Raju Murugan, 'Japan' has turned out to be a terrible choice in Karthi's career. After the 'Ponniyin Selvan' movies, the 'Sardar' actor was expected to score a decent hit at the very minimum.

For Dream Warrior Pictures, which is producing Rashmika Mandanna's 'Rainbow' and Keerthy Suresh's 'Kannavidi', 'Japan' is a costly mistake.
