Netflix's ‘The Hunt for Veerappan’ amasses thumping reviews

The latest docuseries from Netflix has been garnering glowing reviews from all quarters. Titled ‘The Hunt for Veerappan’, the series tells the story of the attempts of two state governments to nab and kill the notorious forest brigand Veerappan, who killed 1000 elephants. Director Selvamani Selvaraj is coming in for applause.

In its review of the series, Scroll described the show as a "breathless thriller". "Ominous music, stylised slow-motion montages, significant information ladled out in spoonfuls to ratchet up the suspense, this one marshals the conventions of true crime documentary series to the hilt," the review further opined.

India Today described it as a chilling yet humane show. "From forest officers working in that period, investigative journalists, to photographers and the police officers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu; everyone was interviewed," the review informed. "Tensions between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu — both cultural and political — are a key theme in the show," wrote Indian Express.

"'The Hunt for Veerappan' is a competent summation of one of the most dramatic ascensions of a common criminal to that of a national threat," said TNIE.
