Nitin Chandrakant Desai has been an art director of repute in the Hindi film industry. He is also a producer. The news is that he was found dead earlier today at his own studio in Karjat in Maharashtra. He was 57. The police suspect that it was a case of suicide.
As per national media reports, Desai defaulted on a massive loan amount of Rs 252 Cr. "A bankruptcy court had admitted an insolvency petition against his company last week," reported Indian Express.
Several Bollywood personalities are in a state of shock. Actor Akshay Kumar described the incident as unbelievably saddening. "He was a stalwart in production design and such a big part of our cinema fraternity. He worked on so many of my films. This is a huge loss," the superstar said, adding that the trailer for 'OMG 2' won't be released today as a mark of respect.
Sanjay Dutt, who is doing Ram Pothineni's 'Double iSmart' these days, said, "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Nitin Desai. A brilliant art director and a good friend, his contribution to Indian cinema has been monumental. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."
