Kanal Kannan, the sought-after stunt master in Kollywood, was on Monday arrested in connection with a social media post. The post pertains to a video clip in which a Christian pastor was seen dancing with a woman. It gave the impression that the pastor is not pious but hedonistic. A DMK functionary lodged a complaint against Kannan, saying that his tweet was derogatory towards Christianity.
The arrest has shocked many. "The DMK is one of the most intolerant parties in the country. Usually, such an arrest in a BJP-ruled State would become a national issue. When regional outfits like DMK, TMC, SP, BSP, and TRS launch attacks on some individuals for political reasons, the national media doesn't create any narratives," lamented a Facebook user.
What is surprising is that even someone like Kamal Haasan, who hurriedly quotes Periyar, Gandhi and Tagore when Freedom of Expression is assaulted in other States, is silent now. "Is Kannan not an industry colleague of Kamal? Why is he silent? For that matter, why is the Tamil film industry not registering its protest?" a Netizen asked.
