When you are doing a talk show, you are supposed to engage the viewer with unscripted entertainment. This is not everyone's cup of tea. Ali's 'Ali Tho Saradaga' has been such a hit because the host knows how to be spontaneous in a natural way.
Vennela Kishore has hosted the now-shelved 'Ala Modalaindi' for ETV. The talk show has featured real-life couples such as Manchu Manoj and Bhuma Mounika, Rajashekar and Jeevitha, among others.
While he is an unbeaten comedian on the big screen, Kishore wasn't able to taste success as a TV show host. He lacked the knack for interesting repartees. On the other hand, Ali could crack jokes even with a senior producer like Allu Aravind. Sometimes, he laughed gently at the expense of his guest without making his irreverence look disrespectful. Somehow, Kishore failed to make the cut. The format of Ali's show was more interesting.
Kishore had to forgo a number of film roles thanks to his TV stint. His experiment with the small screen ended in disappointment, but it was a good lesson nevertheless. With the experience gained, he might well approach comedy roles in feature films with a new perspective.
