Disney+ Hotstar has been in the game for years now. The platform has been churning out web series and other shows. However, most of them have turned out to be disappointing.
While outsiders are not aware of the numbers those shows amassed in terms of streaming minutes, the response by critics/audiences has been dull. Hotstar's most recent show, 'Dead Pixels', received not-so-high ratings. 'Save The Tigers' did well purely due to comedy. The otherwise well-received show was not uniformly good throughout its six episodes. The story lost stream after the first three episodes. The first and second seasons of 'Jhansi' haven't been talked about much.
In this context, two of Hotstar's upcoming shows stand a chance to change (if not transform) its image. 'Shaitan', directed by 'Yatra' director Mahi V Raghav, is the first one. To be streamed from June 15, the crime thriller's trailer is shocking. For all we know, the show shows some promise. If its content is as shocking, gritty and bloody as its trailer, Hotstar will have turned a leaf this year.
'Dayaa' is the other release from Hotstar that holds promise. Directed by Pavan Sadineni, the crime thriller features JD Chakravarthy, Eesha Rebba, Remya Nambeesan, Prudhvi Raj, Kamal Kamaraju, and others. Its streaming date is yet to be announced.
