Are Telangana films misrepresenting Telangana youths?

This week's release 'Pareshan' deals with a youngster with an alcohol problem. The lead man (played by Thiruveer) and his friends are neck-deep in alcohol on several occasions. The entire village is divided between drunkards and their female family members who are opposed to the alcohol culture.

Last week's release, 'Mem Famous', showed its lead man having a minor drinking problem. He and his friends revelled in lazing around and drinking.

Earlier, 'Dasara' showed Natural Star Nani's character in a similar vein. Even in 'Jathi Ratnalu', the three Telangana youths were good-for-nothing idiots. In 'Arjun Reddy', the titular character was a Telanganite with a drinking problem.

There is this feeling that the Telangana films are portraying Telangana youths as drunkards. This has been raised by a few media commentators.

A social critique has begun now. There might come a day when Telangana intellectuals might appear in TV debates and criticize these movies. How will Tollywood respond to the criticism? We have to wait and see.
