'August 16, 1947' heads to OTT - Deets inside

'August 16, 1947' was released in Tamil on April 7. It had a negligible Telugu release on April 14 despite presenter AR Murugadoss's promotions.

The news is that the period film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. "When the entire country was celebrating Independence from British rule, Sengadu, located in the remote part of South India, remained oblivious to this momentous occasion, as they were deliberately kept in the dark by the local British officer Robert," the streaming giant wrote.

Produced by AR Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt, and Narsiram Chaudhary, the film's story takes place over a period of three days. Starring Gautham Karthik, Revathy Sharma and others, the film has music by Sean Roldan and cinematography by Selvakumar SV.

The film, upon its release, received decent reviews. "The scenes of atrocities on the people are created realistically and are disturbing in many instances," wrote Times of India. However, The Hindu described the screenplay as insipid. "Thanks to the highly predictable screenplay, every sequence and its follow-up seem orchestrated," wrote India Today.
