During an interview on the Today Show, Priyanka Chopra shared how she overcame difficult situations when she moved to the US as a teenager by being her own 'hype girl.' Priyanka spoke about how she felt out of place and ate alone in the washroom as she did not know how the high school cafeterias worked. Priyanka stated that she did not believe in 'faking it till you make it,' but in having a conversation with oneself to hype oneself up. She explained that she would quickly eat Doritos from a vending machine and go to class so that she did not have to interact with other kids.
Priyanka also talked about changing her identity to fit in as a non-American more than an Indian. She had to explain to her peers why she could not date or go out at night as she came from a conservative family. However, after winning the Miss World title, Priyanka made friends and broke out. She made her acting debut in Bollywood and has worked predominantly in the US for the last decade.
Currently, Priyanka can be seen in the Prime Video series Citadel, which premiered this week. Priyanka's journey to success is inspiring, and her ability to overcome difficult situations and be her own 'hype girl' is something that many can learn from. Her story also highlights the importance of self-love and acceptance, even in the face of adversity.
