Mani Ratnam's highly-anticipated sequel, Ponniyin Selvan 2, has reportedly amassed a staggering ₹38 crore on its opening day across all platforms at the box office. According to the Box Office report, the film grossed an impressive ₹25 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu alone, falling slightly short of the ₹40 crore earned by its predecessor.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the movie raked in a collection of ₹3-4 crore, while in Karnataka, it earned around ₹4-5 crore. The first part of the franchise made an estimated ₹327 crore in India and over ₹169 crore ($20.70 million) internationally.

The grand two-part cinematic masterpiece boasts a star-studded cast featuring some of the most illustrious names in the Indian entertainment industry. The likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Vikram Prabhu have lent their acting prowess to the film.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's novels from 1955 and showcases the beginning of the Chola dynasty in a cinematic way. The film's grand scale and captivating storyline have resonated well with audiences, solidifying its position as a highly-anticipated release.
