The last two weeks have not been kind to Tollywood as the recent releases have failed to impress the audience. Even the Friday releases this week are struggling at the box office. Despite the presence of Samantha, Shaakuntalam failed to generate any buzz and took a low opening. The weak story and poor execution left the movie soulless.

Lawrence's Rudrudu, also released this week, is being panned by both critics and audiences alike. The previous week's releases, Meter and Ravanasura, also failed to make an impact. Ravanasura, a thriller with Ravi Teja in a grey-shaded role, had a predictable and age-old plot.

Meanwhile, Kiran Abbavaram's Meter turned out to be the biggest disaster in recent times. Nani's Dasara, which was released on March 30, is the last hit we have seen in Tollywood. The recent string of duds has resulted in two forgettable weekends for the Telugu film industry. Usually, the onset of summer holidays marks a good season in Tollywood for an impressive start and also since star heroes films are not releasing, this is a right time for good content based films. However, the start has been weak and now only May remains open for releases before schools and colleges are reopened.
