The Sankranthi season in the Telugu film industry, also known as Tollywood, is a highly anticipated festival for big-budget movies. Even if a film receives a mediocre response, producers of these movies expect it to generate good collections due to the festive season. As a result, all the major star heroes aim to release their films during this period.
Producers reserve the Sankranthi season in advance, leaving smaller heroes with no choice but to avoid releasing their films at that time. This year, Megastar Chiranjeevi's film, Waltair Veeraya, released during Sankranthi and became a blockbuster hit, while Veerasimha Reddy also generated significant profits for its producers despite receiving average reviews.
Dil Raju's Varasudu also earned considerable profits during the Sankranthi season. As a result, all the star heroes have set their sights on the Sankranthi season of 2024. Project K, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring young rebel star Prabhas, is set to release on January 12 as a Sankranthi gift. Superstar Mahesh Babu has already confirmed that his upcoming film with Trivikram Srinivas will also release during Sankranthi. Ustad Bhagat Singh, featuring Power Star Pawan Kalyan and directed by Harish Shankar, also aims to release during the festive season.
Additionally, the Shankar-Kamal Hassan film Indian 2 is expected to release during Sankranthi, along with the upcoming film directed by Kumar Bejawada, featuring Nagarjuna Prasanna. For the first time ever, three major star heroes will compete during the Sankranthi race, leaving no room for any other hero movies to release during that time.
