The much-anticipated historical action drama Draupathi 2, written and directed by Mohan G, is turning up the heat as it enters its final promotional phase. The film, which recently completed post-production and earned its U/A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), has unveiled a key highlight — the introduction of three powerful antagonists, led by Chirag Jani, who takes on the role of Mohammad Bin Tughlaq, the primary villain.
Set in 14th-century South India, Draupathi 2 builds on its predecessor’s success, promising a visually rich and emotionally charged historical saga. With Richard Rishi leading the film as the protagonist, the buzz surrounding this multilingual period spectacle is reaching new heights with each announcement.
Chirag Jani’s Transformation into a Historic Titan
Director Mohan G describes Chirag Jani’s portrayal as one of the most complex and compelling performances in the film.
“Mohammad Bin Tughlaq wasn’t just a ruler or a tyrant—he was a contradiction, both brilliant and impulsive,” says the director. “I needed someone capable of blending intellectual charisma with raw menace, and Chirag exceeded all expectations. He brings an imperial authority, a psychological edge, and a layered intensity that adds gravitas to the entire narrative.”
The filmmaker further adds that Chirag’s performance captures the duality of Tughlaq’s intelligence and folly, making him not merely a villain but a tragic, conflicted genius.
A Grand Ensemble and Powerful Visuals
Alongside Richard Rishi and Chirag Jani, the film features a stellar cast including Rakshana Indusudan, Natti Natraj, Y.G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vel Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan. Each actor plays a critical role in amplifying the political and emotional conflicts that define the film’s 14th-century setting.
The film’s cinematic detailing stands out, with Philip R. Sundar handling cinematography, Ghibran Vaibodha composing the powerful music score, and Action Santosh choreographing intense battle sequences. The production design, led by Kamalnathan, recreates the grandeur of medieval South India with historical accuracy, while Devaraj’s editing and Thanika Tony’s choreography ensure that the storytelling remains dynamic and immersive.
From History to Spectacle: The Vision Behind the Film
Produced by Chola Shakkaravarthi under Netaji Productions in association with G.M. Film Corporation, Draupathi 2 aspires to be a cinematic reflection on leadership, identity, and moral turmoil. The dialogues are penned by Padma Chandrasekhar and Mohan G, weaving a narrative that fuses historical truth with human emotion.
Having completed its censor clearance, the film’s marketing campaign is now officially underway, with the trailer and audio release planned soon, followed by a worldwide theatrical release announcement.
Draupathi 2 is gearing up to be one of the most awaited historical epics of 2026, opening a new chapter for Tamil cinema’s period-action genre — where Chirag Jani’s commanding presence as Mohammad Bin Tughlaq is poised to leave a lasting impact.
