The Telugu film industry is in mourning following the demise of veteran actor and comedian Fish Venkat, who passed away today at the age of 53. Born Venkat Raj, he had been battling severe kidney and liver failure for several months and breathed his last at a private hospital in Hyderabad. His health had deteriorated drastically, leading to him being placed on ventilator support.

A Career Defined by Unique Charm and Versatility

Fish Venkat, whose real name was Venkat Raj, carved a unique niche for himself in Tollywood with his distinctive Telangana dialect, impeccable comic timing, and memorable performances in both comedic and negative roles. He began his career in the early 2000s with a small role in the film Kushi and went on to feature in over 100 films. He became a household name through his appearances in popular movies such as Aadi, Bunny, Adhurs, Dhee, Gabbar Singh, and more recently, DJ Tillu and Coffee with a Killer. His ability to bring authenticity and humor to his characters, often as a henchman or a supporting comedian, made him a beloved figure among audiences.

Battle with Illness and Industry Support

Fish Venkat had been suffering from kidney failure for the past nine months, undergoing regular dialysis. His condition worsened, leading to complete kidney failure and the urgent need for a transplant, estimated to cost around ₹50 lakh. His daughter, Sravanthi, had made a public appeal for financial assistance due to the family's economic difficulties.

While initial reports circulated about actor Prabhas offering significant financial aid, the family later clarified that these claims were false, stemming from a fake call. However, several other prominent figures from the film industry did step forward to offer support. Actor Vishwak Sen donated ₹2 lakh, and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also extended financial help earlier this year. Telangana Minister Vakati Srihari also visited him in the hospital and assured government support for his treatment, providing an initial financial aid of ₹1 lakh. Despite these efforts and the continuous search for a suitable kidney donor, his condition continued to decline.

Tributes Pour In

The news of Fish Venkat's passing has cast a pall of sorrow over the Telugu film industry. Fans and film personalities have taken to social media platforms to pay tribute and express their condolences, remembering his unique contributions to cinema. His demise marks the loss of a talented artist who brought smiles to countless faces and left an indelible mark on Tollywood. He is survived by his wife, Suvarna, and three children.
