Hombale Films, the production firm renowned for hit films such as Kantara and K.G.F, has revealed its intentions to produce a prequel of the well-known Kannada film Kantara.
Rishab Shetty, the creator, director, and lead actor of the original film, is currently working on the script for the prequel.
Kantara was incredibly successful, both financially and critically, and it has become a fan-favorite among viewers. The story is deeply entrenched in the mythological stories and folklore of remote regions of Karnataka, depicting a conflict between villagers and a forest department officer over the preservation of a local deity in the jungle.
The prequel will delve into the backstory of the deity, digging into its past and the agreement it made with a regional king. While it is not yet confirmed whether Rishab Shetty will reprise his role in the new film, new characters will be introduced, as per the sources.
Kantara is a massive hit across the nation. The film was released in multiple languages at the pan-Indian level. Expectations will naturally be higher for the second part and so it remains to be seen if the film will meet them.
