As "Karate Kid: Legends" gears up for its release on May 30th, legendary action stars Jackie Chan and Ajay Devgn recently sat down to discuss the iconic franchise, the evolving world of action cinema, and the tantalizing prospect of a future collaboration.
In "Karate Kid: Legends," Jackie Chan reprises his beloved role as Mr. Han, now mentoring his nephew Li Fong (played by Ben Wang). Notably, in the Hindi dub, Ajay Devgn lends his voice to Mr. Han, while his son Yug Devgn makes his voice-over debut as Li Fong, marking their first joint project.
Ahead of the film's premiere, the Devgns connected with Jackie Chan and Ben Wang to chat about the enduring legacy of the Karate Kid, their shared passion for action, and the experience of working on the film. Ajay Devgn shared a personal anecdote, revealing that his own father, Veeru Devgan, served as his real-life Mr. Miyagi, making it his "dream for me to become an actor." Jackie Chan echoed this sentiment, stating, "I have many Mr. Miyagis—so many teachers who shaped me." Ben Wang resonated with Chan's perspective, acknowledging his own numerous teachers, while Yug Devgn credited his father as his primary guiding light.
The conversation naturally transitioned to the evolution of action cinema. Ajay Devgn offered advice to aspiring actors, remarking, "Things have gotten a lot easier. Earlier, there were no graphics, no cables. Work hard, that’s the only way you’ll get results."
Jackie Chan then reminisced about his experience filming in India for Kung Fu Yoga, recalling fond memories and expressing his deep admiration for Indian cinema. "Every time I watch a Bollywood film, I am surprised because everybody in Bollywood knows how to dance. The choreography is so good. The rhythm, the look," he shared. He even revealed a personal aspiration: "I told the director (Kung Fu Yoga) that one day I will do just the dance sequence." Chan highlighted a strong connection between action and dance, noting their shared requirements for rhythm, precision, and expressive movement.
The discussion left fans wondering if this exchange might pave the way for a unique Bollywood-Hollywood collaboration, particularly given Jackie Chan's expressed desire to explore Indian dance sequences.
