Mohanlal's latest cinematic offering, "L2: Empuraan," has etched its name in the annals of Malayalam cinema by becoming the first film from the industry to surpass the coveted ₹300 crore mark in worldwide earnings. The actor himself shared the impressive collection figures, stating that the film has raked in a staggering ₹325 crore globally thus far.

The high-octane political action drama, helmed by director Prithviraj Sukumaran, has amassed a remarkable ₹265 crore gross worldwide solely from its theatrical run, according to the film trade portal Sacnilk.

Expressing his elation, Mohanlal took to X, posting, "A cinematic moment etched in history. We dreamed it with you, we built it with you. Malayalam cinema shines brighter today — together."

"L2: Empuraan," which hit theaters on March 27th, is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 box office phenomenon "Lucifer." Mohanlal reprises his iconic role as Khureshi-Ab’raam in the film, which is a collaborative production of Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies. The film also features a stellar ensemble cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Indrajith Sukumaran in pivotal roles.

Shot across a diverse range of international locales and released in five languages, "Empuraan" is now poised for its digital premiere on JioHotstar on April 24th, further expanding its reach.

However, "Empuraan's" journey to this historic achievement was not without its challenges. The film ignited a significant controversy on social media due to its alleged depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots, sparking a fervent public debate. In response to the backlash and to address concerns, the filmmakers ultimately decided to remove 17 scenes from the movie. Despite this turbulence, the film's strong narrative and Mohanlal's compelling performance resonated with audiences worldwide, propelling it to this unprecedented milestone for Malayalam cinema.
