A significant legal dispute has emerged, with legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja issuing a legal notice to the production team of the recently released film "Good Bad Ugly," demanding a substantial compensation of Rs. 5 crore. The core of the complaint revolves around the alleged unauthorized use of three of his iconic songs within the film's soundtrack.
According to the legal notice, Ilaiyaraaja asserts that the film's makers incorporated his compositions "Otha Rubayum Tharen" from "Nattupura Pattu," "Ilamai Idho Idho" from "Sakalakala Vallavan," and "En Jodi Manja Kuruvi" from "Vikram" without obtaining the necessary permissions or licenses. This act, he claims, constitutes a clear infringement of his intellectual property rights.
Beyond the monetary demand of Rs. 5 crore, Ilaiyaraaja's notice also includes a request for a formal written apology from the "Good Bad Ugly" producers. Furthermore, he has demanded the immediate removal of the disputed songs from the film's audio track and any associated promotional material. The legal notice explicitly warns that failure to comply with these demands will result in further legal action.
"Good Bad Ugly," starring Ajith Kumar and directed by Adhik Ravichandran, premiered on April 10th and has since been performing commendably at the box office. Trisha Krishnan stars as the female lead in the film, which features music composed by GV Prakash Kumar. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Prabhu, Prasanna, Arjun Das, Sunil, Priya Prakash Varrier, Simran, Rahul Dev, and Yogi Babu, all playing pivotal roles.
As of now, Mythri Movie Makers, the production company behind "Good Bad Ugly," has not issued any official response to Ilaiyaraaja's legal notice. The situation is being closely monitored by industry observers and legal experts, and the outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for the handling of music rights in the Indian film industry.
