Popular Telugu folk singer Mangli has found herself embroiled in controversy after police conducted a surprise raid on her birthday party at the Tripura Resort in Chevella, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The raid, conducted on Tuesday night, resulted in the seizure of ganja (marijuana) and foreign liquor, and confirmed that several attendees tested positive for drug consumption.
According to reports from various local news outlets, Chevella police acted on a tip-off regarding illegal activities at the celebration. During the raid, authorities seized a significant quantity of foreign liquor and found a person named Damodar consuming marijuana, leading to his immediate custody.
Nine Test Positive for Cannabis, Case Registered
Further investigations involved drug tests conducted on approximately 48 attendees at the party. Police have confirmed that nine individuals tested positive for cannabis consumption, intensifying the legal scrutiny surrounding the event.
A case has been registered against Mangli herself for allegedly organizing the party without prior police permission and for serving alcohol without the necessary excise department license. Additionally, the General Manager of Tripura Resort has also been booked for allowing the event to proceed without required approvals. Reports also suggest that DJ equipment was seized for being used without a proper sound system license.
Industry Figures Under Scanner
The incident has sent ripples through the Telugu entertainment industry, as several celebrities were reportedly among the guests. While police have not released a full list, singer Divi and lyricist Kasarla Shyam are among those mentioned in media reports as having attended the party, and are now said to be under the radar for further investigation. Notices are expected to be issued to other guests as part of the ongoing inquiry to determine the extent of drug usage and involvement.
As of Wednesday afternoon, folk singer Mangli has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with police aiming to identify the sources of the illegal substances and the full extent of involvement of all parties present.
