A day after Akkineni Nagarjuna's N-Convention center was demolished by HYDRAA in Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy opened up about his government's stance on the endeavour to clean up the city's "encroachments". He said that saving lakes and water bodies is essential to ensure that the drinking water needs of the city are not compromised.
"If I don't act despite knowing that the drainage from encroaching villas goes to drinking water bodies like Gandipet's Himayatsagar, won't I be failing as a people's representative?" Revanth Reddy asked.
He further said that the inspiration to go ahead with allegedly illegal demolitions had come to him from the holy Bhagavad Gita.
In the past three months, HYDRAA has reclaimed "encroached land to an extent of 43.94 acres", a report says. The demolished structures had allegedly encroached upon parks, roads, Nalas, or lakes.
