In a significant move, the Congress party has announced the appointment of new office bearers to the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The latest appointments underscore the party's focus on empowering backward classes, Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
The newly appointed office bearers include: 23 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 10 from Scheduled Castes (SC), 5 from Scheduled Tribes (ST), 11 from minority communities, and 26 from the general category.
Out of the total appointments, 48 post holders are under the age of 50, signaling a potential rejuvenation of the party under Rahul Gandhi's leadership. The Congress has also made strides in gender representation, with 12 women among the newly appointed office bearers.
With these appointments, the Congress party appears to be embracing a more diverse and youthful leadership structure. As the party positions itself for future electoral battles, it has to be seen how this is going to affect the BJP's electoral prospects.
Rahul Gandhi, the PM aspirant, has been vociferously demanding a caste census. Recently, the RSS favoured the same. So far, the BJP is silent on the issue of caste census.
