The union cabinet is gearing up for an expansion soon. It assumes importance in the wake of assembly elections in nine states across the country this year. Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana and a few others will go for polls soon. Particularly AP too is not that far in this calculus.

This might be the last cabinet expansion at centre before next general elections and usually BJP offers key cabinet berths to leaders representing prominent caste equations in states where elections are due. In this regard, CM Ramesh and GVL currently represent AP in Rajya Sabha but their caste is not an advantage now.

The BJP is targeting Kapus and therefore, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana and Somu Veeraju appear ideal. However, they are not MPs and don't command that mass following to influence voters. Hence it would be interesting to see what the BJP central leadership will do and whether it will accommodate any leaders from the state into the Union cabinet soon.
